Best route to Raleigh N.C

We are located in the Toledo Ohio area, and we are newbies at towing a fifth wheel. We would like to know what the best route to take to get to Raleigh North Carolina.
  • Your most welcome. There are a few grades on the 75-40 route but nowhere near the 77 route. Black mountain on I-40 east of Asheville NC is the steepest but not bad. They have a regulated speed (35) for trailers and a dedicated lane for same. I suggest using all the bypass routes for the city's. Adds more time but less stress. Good luck with your trip and safe travels.
  • We are pulling a 36 footer Newmar, about 14,000. Thanks Allycat, we do want the less steep mountains to start. We are going down for a week for a graduation.
  • First off welcome to 5'ers. 2nd what size and weight are you pulling?
There are 2 routes depending on your rig and what your comfortable driving.I-80 to I-77 to I-40 route is the most direct but has some steep grades to pull and go down. Its about a 11 hr drive. I-75 to I-40 is a straight shoot down then east. It to has a few grades but nothing like I-77. Its about a 13 1/2 hour drive. Hope this helps.
  • Best is a nebulous word. For me best would be the most back roads and very little interstate.

For others the interstates are a must
so I assume the interstates are your preference and so
75 to Dayton us 35 to 64 West Virginia pike to I77 to I74 to us 52 to I40
Kind of mountainous so you might want to consider
I80 to I81 to I83 to I95 to US64A take the loops around BAL and DC
    more traffic less hills
