Bloomfield NM

Question

I've been through there some years ago and don't recall any issues. But I was looking at the map and saw 5500 makes a bypass around town to the west. Would that take a big rig? is it recommended? does it matter?

550 is a easy road in New Mexico for a 40' motorhome.

I was just there last year and there is no 550 bypass.  Runs north to south with a 4 block east west stretch at hwy 64.

CR 5500 nicely bypasses Bloomfield to the west from 64 to 550. Good 2 lane road, not much in the way of shoulders, rough in a couple of short stretches, 22 ton limit on a somewhat narrow bridge. Very doable for a short drive especially considering there is currently construction going on west of Bloomfield going this way avoids. But for that, going through town wouldn't be bad either.
