Bridgeport Texas to Amarillo

Hey folks,
Trying to find out if route 287 between these two cities means multiple stop lights in every town. We just came over 380, McKinney, Denton and it was long, busy, construction and stops at almost every block.

We really don't want to do that again to Amarillo over 287 but have no idea how it goes.

Has anyone taken an alternate route to Tumcamcari?

Thanks for the help, advice... Etc!!

If you need a rest stop along the way, Texas has two excellent rest areas that way. One about 3 miles east of Quanah and the other about the same distance east of Hedley (about 25 miles or so west of Childress. Large clean restrooms, picnic tables, playgrounds, and basically mini museums on local history.

Thanks Padre!! We have friends in Little Elm, so we will make a note and drive and stay farther north next time.
And you are exactly right, we thought 380 looked like a breeze! Not!!
Our friends (who are not Rver's) thought it would be better than the 35e which is why we took it.

Thanks again!

Agree completely with my friend BB about US 287.

I also post to say that I have warned about US 380 several times on this forum. It is one of those routes that looks good on the map as a way around north of Dallas/Fort Worth, but is a frustrating experience in actually driving it.

We have moved our route from Northeast Texas to Colorado up to US 82 which we join at Paris, Texas across to near Wichita Falls.

287 from Decatur (just east of Bridgeport) to Amarillo is a very good highway. No traffic lights until you hit Chilicothe, then an occasional small town with a few lights. After 380 it will be a breeze.

From there an easy drive on I-40 to Tucumcari.
