- MissouriBirdExplorerWe used the ferry system last year for 18 days of island hopping, unloading our tow vehicle and TT 10 times. We took our dog with us, spent three nights in a cabin and used three different ferries during our time on the water. It was, hands down, our favorite part of our 15 week stay. Enjoying the 4th of July holiday celebrations in Petersburg was amazing! Was worth every penny and all of the stress that came with three different changes in our schedule--due to Alaska's on-going state budget issues and their impact on our plans. My advice--be prepared for changes; be as flexible as possible, and enjoy to the max. If possible, don't travel through the end of June-1st of July time frame as the new budget goes into effect on July 1st each year and this means significant change in schedules at about that time. Feel free to PM me for more specific info.
- CayseaExplorerHi All
Did get through to the reservations agent on Wed. After about an hour on hold I was able to make my reservations for the end of May. They are having computer problems and it can take awhile. Have your passport info handy also a book to read while you are on hold.

Something regarding the ferries seems to come out every year. It seems to work itself out.
And that is why they have two ferries in mandatory maintenance at the same time this year. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIISomething regarding the ferries seems to come out every year. It seems to work itself out.

Do to recent ferry schedule changes, the on-line reservation system may not be correct at the moment.
News article on the Alaska ferry.

When you read that article, keep in mind Alaska is broke. and the ferry system is pretty low on the priority list.
