Canada trip

We are planning an RV trip to Canada in June. We will be visiting Quebec, Woodstock,NB and Hopewell Rock, NB.

Other than passports is there anything else we need to be aware of, and what should we expect at the border.

Thank you, Merle and Babe
  • Check the stickys on the top of this page.

Also, there is another thread running for those who travel through Canada to Alaska. Others have made their choice of suggestions in it.

Re. NB, remember Acadian Historical Village (living history) and the Covered Bridge at Hartland - it's the longest covered bridge in the world.

& if you should think about PEI the Confederation Bridge is 9 miles/13 km across the Northumberland Strait and a tourism site in it's own right.

    1. Go to your auto insurance and get a Canadian Insurance Card showing you have auto insurance valid in Canada. This should be provided to you at no charge.
    2. Have passports for everyone.
    3. Leave all guns and ammunition at home.
    4. Have rabies vaccinations for dogs/cats. Birds and reptiles require special considerations.
    5. Research the Canadian and US Customs websites about what you can bring into each country.

My experience is that the Canadian officials will be friendlier at the border. For Americans, returning home is not fun.

As a Canadian that travels to the US. The US border guards are great. The Canadian border guards...not so much.

Don't worry about some booze they won't bother you about it.

  • You are allowed some alcohol and even if you are over paying the duty is still worth it. Travelling to a foreign country so no guns or ammo unless you are on a hunting trip. Remove sunglasses and shut off your engine when you get to the front of the line. Same procedure when going back.

DO NOT MISS QUEBEC CITY. The KOA on the west side of town is a good spot to stay. You can take a shuttle into the city. Suggest a bus tour first and then walk it. Great city. Great culture. Our favourite city in Canada.

Enjoy your stay. Welcome to Canada.
  • Leave the alcohol behind and do a Google search for `traveling into Canada requirements'.
