Any winds except tailwinds should be avoided. Crosswinds will blow you into the drink, headwinds will suck fuel out of your tanks faster than several bullet holes.

We are in the other end of Virginia and we are taking our fifth wheel to a campground tomorrow to begin our camp hosting duties this weekend. I am worried about the 30 miles we have to drive, if the wind is as bad as it has been today.

I think I would avoid driving the CBBT tomorrow if at all possible.

They won't let you cross if the wind is too bad - I think the limit is 35 mph, but it is probably on their website. We have had to wait a day twice coming north, and early this February headed south. They have big parking lots on both sides (the one on the North side is bigger) and will let you dry camp there, or there are private campgrounds on both sides too ...

If they say it is OK to go, it is OK to go. Now that it is 2 lanes each direction, you can take it as easy as you want - and there is no wind in the tunnels!

Forcast for wind west gusting mid 20s. Don't like the direction but been in worse.

We will be heading that way next month and plan to cross instead of going around (hate the DC area traffic).
