I want to thank all who gave us advice when a tree branch went through the roof of our trailer while staying at Chimulco trailer park. We are now back in Cananda and happy in the knowledge that all the damage has been repaired. We have to thank the Chimulco owners and their staff who moved mountains to help us get through this difficult time. Chimulco insurance paid for everything. No questions asked.
A couple friends have e-mailed to say that they heard that Chimulco were having trouble with falling trees. I would like to clear that up. The problem was from one tree which has since been taken down. Other trees of the same species are going to be topped before next season. The owners are taking the situation very seriously. They have already started to plant mature attractive trees. In a nutshell Chimulco will make sure that there will be no repeat incidents of this kind.
Just wanted to kill the rumour before it got out of hand

I'll be there in August, and again in November, as I return home to Mazatlan.

On my third trip to central Mexico, I discovered this gem of a RV park, and ended up staying 5 days. The first thing I noticed was the abundance of butterflies, which indicates a healthy property. It is now at the top of my "A" list.
They have now started a snowbird club, which, for $33,000 pesos, includes 7 months storage, and a 5 month stay. I have no financial interests, but am just passing on the information for those who might be interested.

That was me who was looking for the insurance and I still am looking for it. If I find it I will post.

I may be there in mid November if there are enough people signed up for a commercial caravan I have been asked to lead. I believe it is scheduled to be there for 4 or 5 days. This will be in my old RV so I will not be leaving that there. The reason i want it painted is to make it more attractive to sell back home. I will be there in my new RV in January. Trouble with leaving it, is, it is a TT, so I still have to drive down in order to use it. Not so sure I want to leave a brand new one in Mexico at this stage. Didn't somebody here say they could not get insurance without the tow vehicle? In 5 years, maybe.

Sorry I don't know of anyone to do that work but I am sure once down there it would be easy to find. Javier has a way of finding these things out. There is a really good bodyman and painter in cocula. He has done some great work for us and friends. When will you be at the park? Come see us and we can talk about it.
You would be able to store your rig in Chimulco for the summer. It would be way healthier for the rig away from the humidity and salt. You could still do your month there before you take care of those itchy feet.

I like it there but to be quote honest I get itchy feet after a month in one place. I know mike feels the same as you do. I prefer melaque, more restaurants. They will be getting more caravan business. Caravanas de Mexico is planning both Fall and spring caravans (english speaking ones) for there in november and february. Offset all the french ones. It is a good place to do tours out of. BTW do you know anyone there that will strip and repaint RV logos. I am getting a new trailer and the logos on my old RV are peeling badly, I would like to get them done before trying to sell it. If I can, I will use my old RV down there for one more season. I guess I should ask Mike, he seems to know everyone around there.

I know what you mean. I think I might have a handle on a Mexican who works in Washington State but goes back to Villa Corona a couple of times a year. We are going to see if we can work a deal with him to buy a car, drive it down and then sell it to us. Still working on the details.
Chimulco suits us because of the perfect weather. It never gets really steamy hot. We like the feel of the little village where you can really get most things you want and the villagers don't gouge the tourist. We have been a lot of places in Mexico and this one suits us best. Good job we don't all have the same tastes or the place would be crowded!

I would like to leave my travel trailer there and my truck, but the 180 day permit precludes the truck. My brother in law in PV has permenent resident status. Almost considering selling it to him so he can nationalize it and I just pay the duty.

On the other hand i may just drive and motel it. I do not want to spend all season at chimulco, i like the coast.

been going there for 14 years and call it our winter home. We don't find the caravans invasive at all. We have made some super friends from the Caravan crowd and many of them come back on their own the following year. I think in all we had about four or five caravans last season.
Started last year we can now leave our rigs at the park year round at a very reasonable fee. It sure beats the drive back and forth from Canada and I believe when all is said and done the cost of flying is close. Now we just have to find a way to leave a car year round. Yes a great place to spend the winter. The weather is perfect and the thermal pools cannot be beaten.

They have been trimming trees there for the last 2 years. Nice spot, just remember it is heavily used by caravans in january and february.

Kudos to Chimulco for taking the bull by the horns and making sure you were taken care of.
