Comparing 287 to 191 into Yellowstone

We will be leaving West Glacier heading to West Yellowstone, via I-90.

Is anyone familiar with 287 into West Yellowstone? We will be towing a large 5th wheel. The Trailer Life RV Atlas shows 191 as a "Primary Highway" and 287 as a "Secondary Highway".

287 is shorter, but how is it to drive, compared to 191?

Thanks,

Any roads already talked about on this thread are good. We were just on 287 from 191 to Ennis yesterday and back to Bakers Hole CG 5 miles north of West Yellowstone on 191. 191 is very scenic as is 287. Just different types of scenery. If you are going to do 191, get off I-90 at Belgrade (Rt 85) which will join up with 191 at Four Corners. Going thru Bozeman on 191 will have you talking!

When we left West Glacier headed for West Yellowstone, we went to 206, south to 83 down to 200, east to 141 to 12 into Helena and picked up 287 into YNP. I verified that all those roads were good for a 40' MH with car. It was a beautiful, scenic drive with no interstates, which is how we like to travel. Enjoy your trip. Betsy.

We were on 287 a month ago. Stayed at RV park about a mile north of Ennis MT. Nice park. Road was ok.

We traveled 191 from West Yellowstone to Bozeman. Beautiful winding road with sufficient pull-offs along a trout stream. We we pulling a 30 ft. TT with no issues. Lots of fivers along the route. We did catch a little cross-wind in a couple of the notches, though. 287 is a nice road, probably a little less traffic and less scenic IMO.

Either is fine.
