Crescent City, Redding, CA to Reno, NV

Thanks to everyone who replied. This is a great service and worth belonging to Good Sam in itself.

I have towed a small trailer on 299 several times -- not a problem.

299 to Redding takes about 3 hours and is a good road. Pulled my 5ver over that many times.

If you take 89 from Mt Shasta there are no services between McCloud and Susanville. There are services about 2 miles off route in Burney.
44 has no services between Shingletown and Susanville. I do not believe Old Station has fuel now.

My comments cover 299 from 101 to Redding. Once was enough. I did it in a hot rod truck and it seems like it still took hours and hours. If your prone to motion sickness like me definitely avoid it.

199 is a beautiful road. I haven't driven 299. Be sure to go through Lassen National Park! It's right on your way, and beautiful.

Edit: Oops, yes, I have driven most of 299, and it is pretty also!

I cannot comment on towing, as I don't do that.

Well, some of us disagree that 299 is a horrible drive. I enjoy it. Sure it has curves and hills, but it has 12' lanes, at least 2' paved shoulders and plenty of passing lanes. I especially enjoy that portion that follows the Trinity River.

Thank you for your help on this. I see one person thought the 299 route was horrible, but no one else commented on that route. Any further comments on hiway 299 from the Arcata, CA area to Redding?
