Crossing back into the U.S.

Tomorrow morning we will be crossing back into the US and I was planning on using Columbia Crossing, as I have the last two times. Someone suggested using another bridge, International Bridge III or the Solidarity Bridge. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks,

Paul
  • Paul.. We just returned from La Penita and crossed at Columbia on Sunday afternoon. We were driving a Class A motorhome plus a towed vehicle. We were directed to the truck lanes and told to go to lane 4 or 5. (the farthest right ones) There was no inspection such as questions about the kind of food we're bringing back or other items we purchased while in Mexico. All we did was submit our passports and were then directed to the x-ray machine. Everyone had to get out of the motorhome (including our dogs) while the motorhome went through the x-ray machine. When that was complete the inspector at the x-ray machine gave me a slip to give to another inspector located at a final booth as we exited the customs/immigration compound. The whole process was less than an hour.
  • Everyone here loves the Columbia crossing. I tried it once and found it lacking.
I always use the number II bridge in Laredo.
  • WE successfully crossed at Columbia his morning. We got to the Mexican side just after 8 AM and quickly got our car stamp removed and returned our tourist permits. On the US side, we stopped at the end of the bridge to see how they would handle my unit. Two years ago, I had to let the wife and two dogs walk through while I took the RV and the other dog through the commercial side. It took FOREVER as the line of trucks was so long and each X-ray took about 10 minutes. Last year, we went right through the non-commercial side and it took about 15 minutes. This year they reverted to the first way because they consider having THREE DOGS AS BEING CARGO!!! We got off lucky as there was no one in line and from wife drop off to wife pick-up it was just a half hour. Customs is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get.

  • Teo, where did you overnight on the mex side to get you at the crossing by 8am? Also where did you turn in the car sticker?
    Thanks
  • We stayed the night at a Pemex station, 27.275985 N 99.612293 W, 40 miles from Columbia Crossing. Plenty of space, no hassle, reasonably secure.
