crossing border to get TIP credit

We had purchased a TIP for both our car and RV. RV was about $400. We have now canceled our plans to go to Mexico this year and was wondering if it is possible to merely cross the border, (we live relatively close to the border) turn around and immediately get our credit when we cross back into the US? Do you think the turn around in Mexico is that fast? Thanks, Susie (I have looked into canceling it and it seems to be impossible)
  • Yes, just bring the car, drive in, tell both USA and Mexico border people what you are doing. That way you most likely won't be searched which will speed things up. Leave the RV at home. Be sure that you have your paper work and they will remove the sticker, scan the vin and add the credit to your credit card. Turn around and head back.
  • You're right. It's the car that had the $400 TIP. The TIP for the RV was about $50. So how do I get the deposit back. Can I cross, turn around and cross back?
  • Something is not right ! Your RV should enter with just a 10 year permit. I don't remember the exact cost but around $60.00. Your car needs a a deposit and a TIP. Depending on the year that could be $400. In order to cancel the TIP's you must bring the vehicles to the border with all the appropriate paperwork. They have to take a picture of the VIN plates.
