Crossing for Puerto Penasco?

We are traveling from Ventura, Ca to Puerto Penasco. Which crossing would be the best? It appears that going all the way to Lukeville is at least an hour longer than crossing at Mexicali, but wondering about the road to PP from Mexicali. Thanks. Susie
  • We found the cheapest fuel at the ARCO in Yuma. Easy on, easy off, lots of room.

Yes, Ajo was cheaper than Gila Bend or Why, and right at the border, only a couple cents more than Ajo.
  • We just crossed at Lukeville (departed Sunday from Cottonwood AZ)on Monday the 7th of December. Great trip so far, took only about 25 minutes to get our Passport Stamped at Sonoita and about an hour & half down MEX 8 to Puerto Penasco and the Playa Bonita RV Resort. Gas (Diesel) was cheapest at AJO, but not by much. Over all, great experience so far. We're staying for a couple of months, lots to do!

  • The stretch from Mexicali to Sonoyta is heavy with cargo trailers and trucks, it is far better to travel on the US side and then cross at Lukeville, cheaper gas and better roads on the US side.

  • We run from Silver Strand Beach, 5 miles south of Ventura.
We dross at Lukeville, it's easy, easy paperwork, if you need it, and great roads from there to points south. Plus gas is significantly cheaper in the US, especially Arizona, than Mexico.
