Incidentally, I have driven US 550 more times than I can remember in 55 years of living and working throughout Colorado and I still use CO 62/145 when I tow my 5th wheel from Ridgway to Durango. But part of that is because I just love the scenery around Dallas Divide, Telluride, and Trout Lake. For me, the Telluride box canyon and Bridal Veil Falls is more spectacular than anything along US 550. But that is strictly my preference!
