We're spending the holidays in Bahia de Kino and the lack of commercialism and hoopla has been very refreshing. And the 75* weather doesn't hurt.

Navidad may not have the spectacle attraction of bright lights, ringing cash registers and other side shows north of the border.

What it does have is the undeniable proof that the most important thing in Mexico, even more important than Rolex Oysters, or 5th dimension playstation games, is the glue that holds this country together in good times and bad -- la familia.

The worse the weather, the tighter they bond...

Feliz Navidad a todos!!!! In Jalisco where I went for the Holidays when I was 7 and 8 with our family we had Posadas I think for twelve days then midnight mass open regalos before or after mass. Possole and tamales for Xmas eve.

Not to offend any one but Xmas started as a pagan holiday. Solstice. That`s the scientific explanation.

Most traditional folks in Mexico go to midnight mass and then have "sena de noche buena" (good night dinner "literal translation"), the gift giving is el dia de Reyes January 6th the three majic kings and there is the rosca de reyes (round bread special for this day) this bread has a figurine of a small child and who gets it has to make a party I belive it has to be on February the 22 I am not sure, I will ask my sister in law and get the correct date, that is the tradition in Mexico.

American stile Christmas was introduced in Mexico if I'm not wrong just before the first world war so it is not that big a fiesta, uper class and middle class Mexicans have embraced it more than the lower classes, a lot of very wealthy Mexicans send the children to study abroad and they have adopted American customs or European, Santa Claus and the Christmas tree are growing in tradition.

It's refreshing to be in a country that treats Christmas as the religious holiday that it is!

Por tradición, el día de la recepción de regalos es dia de los reyes aquí en Michoacán. Se reserva la Navidad para los servicios de la iglesia.

It is traditional for gifts to be exchanged in early January on The Day of The Kings in Michoacan. Christmas day is reserved for church.

We have a hot day in Ciudad Satelite I am in short sleve shirt getting dinner ready, I am the sue chef get to wash the dishes, in any case enjoy the snow and have a good Christmas.

Flew home for christmas and it looks like it may be the first white one in Vancouver in years. Not so bad knowing I will be back on the plane in a bit over a week.
