considering s one day tour-Port Angeles June schedule 8:15 am departure and Victoria return 7:30 pm--question one--is on opinon of doing a walking tour of Victoria vs taking our car on the ferry (last visted there in 1975)--two anyone traveled with walk on dogs on that ferry? We wish to travel with two dogs and if did walk on for the ferry passage need to know of any restrictions, which have not found on Ferry info on line--Three years ago RV'd several weeks in BC and Alberta with our two German Shepherds and were never asked at boarder either direction for our dogs Vet documentation. Thank you for your thoughts on our planned day in June.

The really cool thing is, is you arrive just after closing time to go back to Port Angeles, check and be sure, but we have done this lots of times... you get to stay on the dock overnight for free, and depart in the morning at the first ferry. It a fun way to secure a place for your pets and yourselves and makes the trip just that bit more enjoyable.

This is the answer I'm looking for if this practice is still available. We now live in Alberta and will be making a trip this summer to Vancouver Island. Once we're finished visiting we want to head over from Victoria to PA. When we lived on the Island several years ago you could park the night before at the ferry dock with your rig in the parking lot for free, as Atrium Snowbird mentioned. So I hope your right. ๐Ÿ™‚

Unless the dogs are service dogs, they A) can't board the city buses and B) can't go into Butchart Gardens.

As for a walking tour of downtown Victoria...sure, you bet. You won't get around Beacon Hill Park drive..and between that and the Gardens..those are kind of the two big draws. The other consideration would probably be the weather. With few sailings, if the weather is wet and windy both you and the dogs will be pretty miserable.

Agree with 2gypsies. We did the same thing several years ago. Can't speak to the dog issue though.

Here's the ferry's take on pets:

Yes, you can easily walk around after getting off the ferry. Everything is right there.

We also picked up the public bus which took us out to Burchart Gardens. We did this on a day trip easily.

There are designated pet friendly areas and kennels are available. A walking tour of the legislature grounds, the downtown and Beacon Hill is usually enough for one day.
