Florida Gulf Coast boondocking

Considering touring on Hwy 98 from Gulf Breeze FL to Panama City FL. Have a 40ft Holiday Rambler & towing. Noticing that the Walmarts are "no overnighting", has anyone done this & boondocked along the way? If so, any suggestion for stopping locations at night without being woken up & asked to move on??? Thanks ahead of time to all who reply.
  • Thanks for the reply. I summer in Maine and have not taken my MH to Canada. Stayed in motels during a trip up to Hopewell and back and don't recall seeing a lot of RV parking. In general things seemed a little more expensive up there but its been a while.
  • No BillMFI, not everywhere, but still in some places, although it's been reducing over time. We have Public Land Use Zones (PLUZ), and find in some of the very small towns a community park area or similar pull ins. Most large areas there is black top allowed at walmart, casinos, large gravelled areas in places. BC has various spots off logging roads and the like. There's a lot of back country camping but hard to access with a rig.

Generally we've always found somewhere on our travels across Canada east and west, with an exception of city ordinances. We don't have the amount of BLM, NFS, Trust Lands, LTVAs etc set aside you folks seem to enjoy on the west coast :(
  • Just curious. Is boondocking allowed everywhere in Canada?
  • What WonderingBob said. Stay north of Florida Highway 20 and you will find lots of places to boondock. The Crestview, Florida Walmart always had a few RVs parked overnight in their lot, and they are right off exit 56 on I-10. The coastal towns like Destin, Panama City, and Pensacola do restrict overnight parking, due to too many people abusing the privilege and homesteading in the lots.
  • Most counties or city on the beaches frown on boondocking . But , move north to hiway 20 , just a few miles and your reception will change . I traveled that road , boondocking for thirty years and have never been hassled .
  • Explain to me one more time please. You are towing a 40 foot RV (with toad) from British Columbia to Florida and you want a free place to stay on a trip of less than 50 miles? I feel sure that I am missing something important here. lizzie
  • No place to boondock in that area; plus those places are not that far apart. I would get a campsite midway between the two and day trip to attractions. Note also that on summer weekends traffic can be heavy on 98.
  • Better go to plan "B" as boon docking is out in that area.
