free free free

We are on a low fixed income and travel from Pa to South Texas for the winter. we're not adverse to overnights at Campgrounds if we need to, but try to save a buck on the way down since it's only to sleep and then continue on our way.
Among the freebies that we deem safe are: Bass Pro shops, Cabelas, Cracklebarrel and of course, tried and true Wally World and only if it's in a low crime area.
Do you have any you can add to the list. Thanks.
  • We do the same...stay free when "commuting" to our location. We also use welcome centers, rest areas (especially if they have separate areas from trucks).
  • "Elks Clubs allow members to camp for free on their property."

No, they charge unless you cheat and don't pay. Usual cost is anyhere from 15 to 20 bucks
  • We stay at a Texas Elks park about once a year and it is the honor system. Not free for me and if your a Elks member you do get a discount but still not free .
  • Flying J Pilot Truck Stops. RV friendly and have a separate parking area for just RV's that is usually next to the store and away from the trucks.
  • We have yet, at least on the West Coast, to see free camping at an Elks Park. Minimum donation is 5-10 dollars for dry camping.

We use CasinoCamper.com, free campsites.net, Cabelas, churches, Home Depot, and Lowes, with permission of course.
  • Elks Clubs allow members to camp for free on their property.

Check out Harvest Hosts. It's a club you join ($40 a year) and members can stay 1 night for free at participating properties, usually farms or wineries. It's expected that you will thank the host by purchasing something, but it's not required.

We joined this year and have spent a night at a vineyard in Cape May and a farm in central Jersey. Now to be fair, I spent a lot more on wine at the winery than I ever would for a camp site.

  • Join Escapees and subscribe to the Day's End publication. It's a wealth of freebies that can keep you out of sleeping in noisy parking lots.
