We will be traveling from Maryland to Maine and we are looking for a spot stop half way and overnight for free. My wife is very funny about this as she should be so looking for something very safe if anyone has suggestions.

I just cant do that. To much movement in truck stops, rest areas or parking lots. Its just not worth saving the $40 bucks especially when up until now traveling with kids. I always pay to overnight in a CG so I can unwind and relax as its the journey as well as the destination. So good luck with that and it would probably be safer the further away from the big city the better.

I spent 4 months in Boston from Nov thru Feb and it didn't cost me a dime. Free room, board and meals were included. All I had to do was join the Navy. Looking back on it...
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

There are three Travel Centers of America in Connecticut and one in New Hampshire. Stayed at the one near Danbury a couple of weeks ago. A bit noisy with trucks coming and going all night but that didn't bother us. Safe as can be (IMHO). The price is right -- spend $25 in the store and/or restaurant and it's free. Supper and breakfast took care of that. All are right near the highway so the access is easy, and plenty of room to manouver. Reservations available for a small fee, otherwise it's as available. Locations available on the web. Look for a huge TA sign when you're in the area.

Fwed...where did you find a Travel Center near Danbury?...or did you mean in Southington at the junction of I-691 and I-84?
Chuck

It was the Southington location. It seemed near to Danbury, but I guess it really isn't.

A Commuter Rail parking lot might be a possibility?

This is what we use to Locate Wal*Mart. we have stayed in a few in the area along with spending the night a couple times in a College Parking lot in town but we were part of an event and the security made for a very comfortable night.

Not to start a Wal*Mart post but with Cameras and Security we sleep very well when traveling from A to B and have NEVER had an issue. Call ahead to be sure they are OK with you and it should be no problem.

There is a Cracker Barrel in Rhode Island less than a mile from exit 7 on Rt 95. LINK We have eaten there often and know there is an RV parking area. Don't know if they allow overnight but you could always call.

The area called "Centre of New England Blvd" also has a large Walmart Supercenter.
