Getting T.I.P. deposit when returning

We'll be returning to AZ in a few days, and need to know how to deal with the 6 month temporary import permit for the tow vehicle.

We'll probably use the Sonoyta crossing. We see the Aduana, Banjercito a few km below town.

How to we do it? I've read that you go to the banjercito to get your deposit back.

- Where do you return the decal, receipt and customs paperwork?

- Do you go to the banjercito first?

On a related issue, I know there's a booth to return TIP stickers across from the Nogales 21km entry station. It's less of an issue for people with 10 year RV permits since they don't have a few hundred dollars on deposit, but for people with cars, does the TIP return booth also issue refunds, or is it a multi-step process including going across the street to the banjercito?

Do you mean that Hwy 2 was bad, or the road out to Puerto Penasco from Caborca?

We turned in our TIP today at Pitiquito. There is a little Banjercito booth, and the clerk was excellent. She gave us a receipt to track with Visa.

There wasn't signage, so we had to disconnect and thread the needle to get the RV out of the parking lot.

FYI, Hwy 2 above Pitiquito was terrible. Both lanes were on a dirt trail for a few miles along the construction, and we lost about two hours. I wish I'd tried the more direct road from Cabonca to Penasco.

We'll try Caborca (it appears from online discussions to be the the plaza at Pitiquito), but there is evidently an office close to the border at the link in the first post. There is conflicting discussion about whether the one near the border will accept TIP stickers.

There wouldn't be a problem turning in our sticker then staying in Puerto Penasco for a few days, would there?

We tried to turn in our FMM at km 21 but they closed at 4:00 PM That had to be done in Sonoyta. TIP at the southern point.

The place that you say is closer to the border is San Emiterio, it is 27 km from the border, and IT NO LONGER HAS A BANJERCITO! You can turn in your FMM there though as the immigration is still there. Pitiquito is where you turn in your TIP, but there is no immigration. It is 99 miles from the border crossing at Sonoyta/Lukeville.

Turn it in at the facility close to Caborca. If you paid cash you will get cash back if CC then it will be credited back.
No problem stopping at Puerto Penasco after turning it in. The tourist permit is not turned in at Caborca. At the border or the truck inspection that was the old TIP issuing place.

No idea. Anyone else?

There isn't anywhere else to return your paperwork.

I do not know about any deposit,, never had to deal with that.BUT the return of the stickers HAVE to be at the station about 6 miles south of the city of Sonoyta. Decals, Paper work and such there,, I had to go back from the National Park in AZ. after a discussion with another traveler..I did get to cross the border 5 times, You have to have your trailer/rv with you when returning the papers and decals.... A MUST DO.

Good luck

Unless things have changed since last year, the office is significantly further than 6 miles south of Sonoyta. It is just south of Caborca. See Tallyho69's post.

Shortly before Caborca is a huge facility on the left, about 100 miles before the border, just past the railroad tracks. Cross over through the barricades and there is plenty of space to park. Walk between the buildings through the breezeway, and that's where the woman has her office. For a small vehicle, you drive in. With a moho and a tow, she will come to you.

It's our border crossing of choice.

The deposit is credited back to your credit card.

I have never had to pay a deposit but normally anything to do wit money must be done at the Banjercito. They do not trust employees with money!
