Does anybody know if the road will be totally open by next week?
Wanting to take a drive there from our seasonal spot in Alberta.
Partially open now, but would like to see all of it.
As well, if you have any highlights not to be missed, or suggestions for lunch would be appreciated.

thx

Yay!

Yep, just returned from our drive..........one word to describe it.........awesome.

BTW, we drove it with my quad cab short box truck with front mounted storage box (less the truck camper) and had no problems at all.Our overall length was right at the limit of 21ft.

Have you ever driven the road in any season? If not, you may want to consider taking one of the bus trips.
Here is a website to peruse: http://www.glacierparkinc.com/plan-your-trip/traveling-going-to-the-sun-road/

I am sitting in a campground at St. Mary, Mt right now and a couple of hours ago I talked to two park employees that were coming through the closed gates on the east side of Going To The Sun Road in a park service pickup and they indicated that it would be opening tomorrow (Wednesday June 28. I hope that means first thing in the morning as I am hoping to be able to hang around just long enough to drive it before I have to head home.

It's also avalanche related, it seems. One week ago, we were happily riding up that road in a vintage red "Jammer" with a tour, when the driver arrived at a barricade. Road closed until the slide could be cleared. So we (and a batch of other Jammers behind us) had to turn around. We never made it to Logan's Pass.

Of course it is all weather related!

Byrogie, I don't think anyone can say for sure. I did make a reservation in Kalispell, MT. for week after next and the park owners said it sounds like it will open soon. I will be making the 1300 mile drive and pray we do not get disappointed. When we did get to drive the road, about 15 years ago, we most enjoyed to ranger station at midway of the drive. We walked on the snow and ice and witnessed rams butting heads.
