Groom Lake and Area 51

In the next couple of weeks we'll be taking the route from Las Vegas north around the east side of Area 51 military property in Nevada. Then Extraterrestrial HWY to Tonapah and back south to Beatty on the west side of the military area. Hunting UFOs. :) Thinking of one or two nights boon docking along the route with a 30' travel trailer behind 4x4 pickup.

Anybody have any logistical advice for this route? Roadside camping restrictions, road conditions or concerns, etc.
  • Wide open country with not much to see except Desert, stop and check out the Little-A-le-Inn in Rachel, and the famous Mailbox up the road. Have fun!

Unless you go and try to get close to Area 51 and Groom Lake - then you will meet a lot of big security guards.:W
  • Its all good road with long distances between fuel. As stated above you can park anywhere its not posted and at this time of year you will see just about no one.
  • pick a sage brush you like or a rock not much else to choose from.
lots of each so take your time. move to another if the first get boring
  • There are 48 million acres of public land (BLM) in Nevada. www.blm.gov/nv
Unless otherwise posted you can camp on any of it.
