Highway 50 through Nevada...or Interstate 80?

We are heading to Marysvale, Utah for some ATV riding. The quickest is 50, but our friends are worried that the road is too desolate if mechanical issues should occur...And the fuel stations too far apart.

Opinions?

X2 what fireman93514 said. Take 50 E or W over I-80. Dick

We live along 50 in Nevada and have used it many times. It is not all that desolate. I prefer it to 80.

80: high speed interstate with services every few miles. Boring drive.

50: two or four lane, pavement needs work in a few places,70 miles plus between services. Interesting and scenic drive.

For us it is a no-brainer. 50 is our favorite drive across NV.

US 50 is our preference for heading west from CO. I'd say we use US 50 5x as much as I-80.

I assume one can fuel at Fernly... then make it to Ely? Our friends are most concerned on fueling...
They are over thinking this I believe. If we go 80... it adds 137 miles to the trip...and... since the DW (that's me) hates to drive 8 hours at a time...I'm rooting for 50.

The CA DOT says that 50 is currently one-lane between Riverton and Pollock Pines due to the King Fire. I'd check road conditions before making a final choice; if the road is open and safe, 50 is preferable to 80, IMO.

Last fall we did from ELY to Austin and you can surely get gas in Ely, Eureka, and Austin. So gas should not be a problem. Its hilly.
and a beautiful drive...it is not like there are NO cars/trucks out there...just a lot less than anyone is used to.

Wish we could have made it to fallon but son (who now lives in vegas) said that Fallon wasn't worth going to AND some snow was on the way so we bolted south...fast.
