My family is getting ready to take a long trip and need to update our towd to hold at least 6. I know that officially a 05 Honda Odyssey is not recommended but is towd regularly and am wondering what special steps a person needs to take to make it work.
I'm fairly sure the process is the same as the 99-04 Odyssey. Here's the sequence: Crank in park, slowly work the shifter through reverse, neutral, D4, D3, D2, D1, D2, D3, D4 and stop in neutral. Then let the engine idle in neutral for 3 minutes. Leave in neutral, and turn key off only one click so that it is still in accessory and steering wheel is not locked. Be sure parking brake is off and all most all electrical drain (radio, etc) is off.
NEVER SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO NEUTRAL AND THEN TOW WITHOUT RUNNING THROUGH THE GEAR SEQUENCE POSTED ABOVE as this leaves some component in the tranny in the wrong position.
Most folks tow these without remco pumps. I think you'll find the Remco web site says no pump needed for the 05 Odyssey.
An Odyssey is heavy, so I think you'll need a braking system for the toad.
The base plate required for an 05 Odyssey is different than the 99-04, but they are made and available.
Hopefully you'll get some more posts from folks towing a later model Odyssey. As you can see in my signature, I'm towing an 04 that Honda approved for towing.
I've seen previous posts on this forum of folks towing 05 and later Odysseys so a search may be helpful.
