- Dennis_M_MExplorerGood four lane with light traffic all the way. As I recall a bit of a climb south of Ruidoso Downs, but I tend not to pay much attention to the climbs - see sig.
- frizzenExplorerThe big hill south of Ruidoso is Apache Summit. I don't recall it being over a 5% grade. Watch your speed on the west side. The Apache police like to run radar.
- BB_TXNomadI agree with above. Drove that summer before last. No problem.
- AtleeExplorer III drove from Roswell to Las Cruces on US70 in March of 2014. It was a great drive. Ended up going over Apache Summit at night even though I prefer not to drive at night.
US70 is 4 lanes all the way. The climb up Apache Summit was fairly easy because my F150 with 5.4 3V engine never did do much high RPM screaming.
You should have no problem with it. - C-BearsExplorerTraveled that route on the Harley loaded 2-up and then again last year with Montana. It is a climb but not the worse I have seen. If you haven't been through that part of New Mexico it is worth seeing!
- RE_ToddExplorer3500 ft in Roswell, 7500 ft at Apache Summit. Great 4 lane highway, no big grdes, just long easy ones. The grade from White Sands, the base, to St Augistine Pass is steep, I climb it at 50 MPH towing my 40 ft Toy Hauler. Short, but steep.
