I-90 around Albany NY

All the mapping software and GPS I try routes you on I-90, then I-87, then I-90 again around Albany. Any reason not to stay on I-90 all the way through?
  • Where are you comming from, and where to?
NY state Tway is I-90 from the west and becomes I- 87 south at Albany. You can follow I-90 east toward Boston or Thruway south (now I-87 south) to Mass pike extension and cross river (east) to mass pike or stay on I- 90 through Albany toward Mass pike.
I-90 through Albany can get busy rush hour. Thruway to Mass pike better at rush hour.
    Map view helps..
  • Thanks guys. We'll be travelling on a Sunday so traffic shouldn't be too bad. And with E-Z Pass the toll booth wait should be minimal. I'll probably try it just for a change of scenery.
  • I believe there is a 1 mile difference between the 2 ways, yet you have to stop 2 more additional times for tolls, and possibly hit Albany traffic. I almost always go around.
