In Tennessee

Can someone tell me on I-40 East to 840 , what the road conditions are, and how frequent are there gas stops and rest stops? thnx
  • Thank you , sounds like a good way to bypass Nashville heading south to Alabama.
  • 840 is a bypass around Nashville 140 to I40. Its about 17 miles further than thru Nashville, and usually about two hours or more faster. It is good 4-lane, with very little traffic. The truck traffic is getting heaver on 840, as many thru trucks find it is much faster for them, although a bit further. To me, it does seem to be a lot longer, until I was told what it measured. Some truckers have told me that they save fuel by taking the longer route instead of all the start-stop through downtown.

Just drove all of the way across Tenn on I40 from east to west last week. As mentioned above there are plenty of gas stations and truck stops all ong I40. Overall the road is in good condition with a few areas of construction especially around Nashville. I40 west of Nashville is closed from 8:00pm Friday go 8:00 am Monday for bridge construction for the next several weeks.

    Not exactly.

I-40 is closed right in the middle of Nashville, 8PM Friday-8AM Monday---NOT west of Nashville.

    FAST FIX 8
  • I-40 is in good condition, tons of places to stop.

If you are headed east, you can pick up SR840 at I-40 mm 176. No need to go further east on I-40.

  • I-40 across Tennessee is rated one of the best roads in the US by the Truckers Mag. That's not to say you will not hit a rough spot.

Where are you going? Not sure I know "840".

There several rest areas that are open. Plenty of Truck Stops in including Pilot/Flying J. Lots of Campgrounds just off the interstate.
