Will be leaving 1st week of Sept from central Ind. to Grand Canyon. We will go I70 to St. Louis then I44 to Oklahoma city then I40 to hyw 180 to grand canyon village. just would like to know nice overnight stays along way. Will be leaving on a thurs evening after work so hopefully will make it that night to otherside of St. Louis. next day hopefully drive to Amarillo or alittle futher then next stop alittle past Albuquerque then next day Grand Canyon. So anyone that has done that same route with the same or close by overnights, suggestions on campgrounds would be very much appreciated. Thanks Tara

Rushville is almost neighbors. We will be pulling through there next week on our way out to Colorado/Utah/Arizona. Returning back to IN in April. We drove in the car last fall the same route you are taking, but went south from Flagstaff. Most of the roads were pretty good, few bad stretches in OK, but overall not bad.

Have a great trip.

We like to stay at Williams, AZ and then travel to the Grand Canyon on highway 64. Lots to do around Williams including Bearizona, Deer Farm, Lakes etc.l

Our favorite park is http://www.thetrain.com/lodging/rv-park

Williams KOA Circle Pines is nice as well if you prefer a forested campground.

We have done 2 trips to the Grand Canyon using the route you mentioned. Between the two trips, we used the following campgrounds, some of which may fit your timing:

Casino Queen RV Park, just east of St. Louis.

Tulsa NE/Will Rogers Downs KOA, FHU sites in a parking lot for the casino/race track. We had breakfast in the RV watching the horses having their morning exercise on the track.

Amarillo KOA

Grants/Cibola Sands KOA - they have a short trail through a lava field adjacent to the campground.

Holbrook/Petrified Forest KOA - for a tour of the Painted Desert & Petrified Forest.

Meteor Crater RV Park - for a tour of Meteor Crater.

Lastly, consider driving north on route 89 and enter the Park on route 64. Route 89 passes Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monuments, which are worth a side trip. Route 64 has views of the canyon of the Little Colorado River and takes you along the Grand Canyon Rim on your way to Trailer Village.
