John Day, Oregon, north on OR hwy19

Hi, all. I will be traveling through John Day, Oregon, in a few weeks and have two options to get to Portland. One is hwy 26 through Prineville, Madras, etc., and the other is to take OR hwy 19 north and connect to I-84 near Arlington. I think the hwy19 route would be more scenic, but I have never driven it before. Is this highway trailer-friendly and a good route to take? I will be towing my 29’ trailer with a Ford F-150. I should mention, I am not good with heights, so if this route is very narrow, with sharp windy turns with sharp drop offs, I would love to know about that as well! TIA
  • Thanks for the advice, I am going to take OR19 then, after I leave John Day. Appreciate the insight!
  • I've been through all three available routes, are just fine with your setup. We've done a lot of camping between Ukiah and John Day and off highway 207 south of Heppner. Even 207 is a pretty good highway. Do check the Oregon DOT TripCheck site to see if there are major construction projects going on along any of the routes.
  • Those roads are not bad at all. I really like eastern Oregon.
