Los Angeles to Montgomery AL - 5wks on the road

As the subject says, Tuesday next week we're kicking off the cross-country trip from Los Angeles to Montgomery, AL.

Towing an Open Range 308BHS with a '14 Silverado 1500 max tow (11,100) and Propride3P WD hitch. I have 4500 miles towing with this combination and I'm very happy with its performance thus far.

Spending a week in Bryce/Zion
Few days in Moab
Few days in Silt CO (brand new KOA)
Few days in Colorado Springs (yes, passing through the Eisenhower tunnel - it's going to be hard on the truck so if it grenades, here it will be)
Week in Branson MO Silver Dollar City campground
Few days in Land between the lakes
Few days in Charlotte NC
Final stop in Montgomery AL

Wish me luck! I'll use this thread to post some photos or share stories about my trip.

I don't know if things have gotten better yet now or not but if you are planning on staying anywhere along SOUTH BLVD in Montgomery please be very much aware this is full blown WAR ZONE for crime...

All of the nice HOTELS and Nite CLUBS from the past are all boarded up now... I would definitely not stay at the RV PLACE just south of the TRUCK STOP at I65 and SOUTH BLVD EXIT...

Even driving up and down SOUTH BLVD looking for a good place to eat the local Police will pull you over and tell you it isn't safe to be there after dark... That was a first for the wife and me being told by the local police to go back to the Hotel on the East side of town where we was staying....

This has been this way for a few years now and last time we was there was only two years ago...

SOUTH BLVD was the place to be just a few years back with all of its real nice hotels and places... Makes you want to cry to see them all boarded up now with bars in the windows...

Hopefully it has got better - just passing on what we went thru - Used to visit Montgomery many times just a few years ago in my working years...

All of the new HOTELS are now at I85 and EAST BLVD areas...

[COLOR=]While in the area you might try to Catch the Rt 12 Hogback and number of State Parks near by

    Few days in Moab

When leaving Moab try to go out Rt 128 along the Colorado River to I-70.

Few days in Silt CO (brand new KOA)

Think about a drive to Maroon Bells and a Great hike (not to mention the photo op)

Few days in Colorado Springs (yes, passing through the Eisenhower tunnel - it's going to be hard on the truck so if it grenades, here it will be)

If I were headed to the Springs I’d pull of I-70 on Rt 24 to Leadville and Buena Vista and Salida and take Rt 24 over to the Springs. If you spend the night take the time to Do Independence Pass in the Truck.

Week in Branson MO Silver Dollar City campground

Branson is not my kind of place so…….

Few days in Land between the lakes
    Few days in Charlotte NC

Try to get back into the Mountains and Lake – Rt 64 and Lake Toxaway are my Favorites.

    Final stop in Montgomery AL

Post Pic’s and let us know how your doing,

    BOL,
  • Is there a reason you're going all the way to Charlotte and then back to Montgomery? Just nosey. Sounds like a great trip -- have fun and stay safe.
