Massachusetts to Disney Ideas

I am trying to plan a trip to Orlando. When leaving Massachusetts, I always avoid NYC, Philly (sometimes Baltimore and DC) by going way out into Pennsylanvania and cutting back to 95 in Virginia. This time, I honestly, would like to avoid NYC and maybe come back in on 476, SW of philly. (Trying to avoid major tolls and traffic).

Any advice that I can sneak through (maybe 202 in NJ to 476) or any other idea where I avoid NYC and major tolls but don't go too far west?

Thanks!
Jay

Rt 301 in Delaware is now a toll road.

Dealing with Atlanta traffic is usually not much of a problem......IF you don't try to do it during rush hour.....and if you do NOT use the bypass where all the trucks are.

Not really, but when viewed from the VA side for the first time, it was a little.

When we take our long trip, we go 95s to route 9 in CT to 84s. It gets us away from major cities in CT and of course it keeps us well away Of The hell that is NYC

Awesome! I have taken two of those routes and I always weight the 100 miles more versus if 95 being clear or not...guess itโ€™s a **** shoot.
I appreciate the other ones! Iโ€™m gonna weigh all of of them.
I truly appreciate the help.

Try I-84 to US 209 south through the Delaware Water Gap. Pick up I-476 off of I-80 or if you're adventurous, head down PA33 through Wind Gap pick up I-78 to I-476 there. There's a KOA in E. Stroudsburg that would be a good stop.

I like US 301 through Maryland. Not interstate so the average speed is lower, but the occasional town breaks up the monotony. The worse part is the scary bridge over the Potomac.

I make that trip every yr for the last 20 years. This the route I go: 95-495-90-84-81 (Jonestown KOA 1 mile off 81) 81-77 (Charlotte KOA 1 mile off 77) 77-26-95 (St. Augustine Beach KOA 14 miles off 95) then onto wherever... This route is 100 miles longer, but way shorter timewise and no tolls, except I90 and Newburgh bridge (eastbound) over the Hudson. I just got back on Monday, was a good ride. as good as any of the northeast roads this time of the year.

I like the KOA Journey campgrounds, because they are set up so you don't have to disconnect and are open year round. They even have prepared food so you don't have to cook either. And the price is good too...

I guess it depends on what "too far west" means to you.

My standard route is I-81 to I-77 to I-26 to I-95, which seems to me as good a balance of quick and stress-free and non-tolled as anything. It's about 100 miles longer than taking I-95 all the way, or about 50 miles longer than I-95 if skirting around NYC on I-287. I-95 can be a bit quicker if traffic isn't bad.

Occasionally I've gone I-81 to I-40 to I-75 just for the sake of variety; that means dealing with Atlanta traffic and is also longer overall.

K.I.S.S.

A LOT of 95 is in really BAD shape.

Since you already have some general experience with going west first, you might want to consider going over to I-75, in Ohio I think, and taking that about 95% of the way.

Without going too far West....hmmmmmmmmmm

How about 84 West - 87 South -287 South - 78 West..into PA...

476 South- (toll till north of Philly, should be minimal )

Stay on 476 ( Blue Route ) ( Free )
95 South - Into DE
495 South ( around Wilmington ) - 95 South - Rt 1 South - 301 South 301 south/50 west and cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge into Bowie MD
301 South.. This will put you back on 95 at mile marker 104 in VA... It is about 20 minutes NORTH of Richmond...
