Mississippi to Maritimes--best route to bypass NYC

I'm planning a trip from North Mississippi near Memphis to Nova Scotia and then out to Montana and back to MS. I want to miss NYC, and other big metro areas. Any route(s) suggestions? I plan to lea...

we just arrived in Nova Scotia from NY. We left kingston NY area on a monday morning at 7:30 am....thruway to mass pike to 290 to 495 to 95 and it was a breeze no traffic, no congestion...overnighted in Beddington, ME but I think I would recommend the Walmart in Brewer, Maine.

Oh, and if you are going to Nova scotia go see Hopewell Rocks and plan for a full day...
