n.c. campgrounds

We will be heading to Ohio via I-77 thru N.C. I would like some recommendations for campgrounds in N.C. near I-77.Since we will be leaving from our first nite in the Savannah area, someplace near or north of Charlotte would be good.
Thanks
  • We used to stay at the Statesville KOA on I-77 just north of Charlotte overnight. It has good access.
  • Slim pickins around the Queen City. There's the Charlotte/Ft. Mill KOA, Exit 88 in S.C. about 1/4 mile west of the big road. Easy on and off and about 2 or 3 miles south of Charlotte. Then the aforementioned Statesville KOA. For ambiance and price, my first choice would be Ebenezer Park. Take Exit 82C, SC 161 for 1 mile to Mt. Gallant Rd., turn right for 4 miles to Boatshore Rd and turn right. There's a little price break for seniors, age 60. First come, first served, but with school back in session I'd be surprised if they were full. Hit the big road after 9 am to miss the morning rush. Travel safe.

  • Just off I77 at Mount Airy ( near NC / VA line) there is a nice friendly campground called Mayberry Campground last rates that I know were $33.5 per night $30 Good Sam with no add ons (Mostly huge sites but some weekends in the fall are booked due to Mayberry days (Andy Griffith) / fall festivals / leave season....... Have a web site..... Super nice owners highly recommend..........
