Nevada Hwy 50
Looking at crossing Nevada on Hwy 50 that goes from Carson City to Ely and into Utah. Has anyone driven that route and is it a good road? Understand it is "lonesome" and few towns but there seems ...

Basin and Range. Nevada has 276 mountain ranges so Rt 50 is up and over, through the valley and over the next range. None of the passes are that high. Austin, Eureka, and Ely are worth stopping and looking around. It is at its most scenic in the spring and fall. Summer is kind of hot and dusty. Snow on the mountains changes the scenery a lot.
I have driven the road around 50 times, maybe more. Keep your tank full but don't plan on buying gas in Austin. Fill up in Fallon and Ely. There are some fun places around Ely, I like Cave Lake St Park and the surrounding ranges for watching deer and elk. Great place for watching birds, especially raptors. Gr Basin NP is not far to the east.
