New Tesla Supercharger at Kettleman with PULL THRUS. .

That upcoming 400 mile range will put a Tesla into my realm of possibility. How cool!

I suppose it could be. But when we fast charge we usually do lunch at the same time so usually no time lost. Or shop or whatever. 30 to 60 minutes is easy to burn. Planning is everything.

They do it with three phase power. Both the Tesla and non Tesla fast chargers. Gotta be a big a$$ transformer feeding that place. There are a few hundred thousand model 3's coming off the line in the next few years. Most will charge at home like we do but longer trips you have no choice you are headed for a fast charger some where. Unless it is overnight in a hotel. Most hotels now have single phase 32 to 48 amp Tesla and non Telsa charge stations. These are not DC chargers, they are AC chargers that feed the car and the cars on board charger does the rectification and charges the battery. It is essentially what we all have in our garage. Here is our 40 amp 240 unit. (the one on the right). The one on the left is a 12 amp 120 unit...read sloooooow. But occasionally we charge both cars at the same time and the 120 unit works well for Angela's little car. These charge stations are called EVSE's or Electric vehicle Supply Equipment. They are essentially an extension cord with a relay half way that closes as long as the handshake for the car is made. The car also tells the EVSE how much MAX current to let through. Teslas can use these with an adapter and Non Teslas can use Teslas destination chargers with an adapter. Tesla superchargers can only be used by Teslas but not by non Teslas. However Teslas can use ordinary DC fast chargers with an adapter.

By the way, this is a NON tesla multiple charge station. These are still kinda rare as most are singles or doubles. We non Tesla owners need more of these. This is run by "Chargepoint". Shell is actually starting to install this kind of thing in Britain too. Usually co-located with their gas stations. Slowly but surely.

So the long and short of it is if it is getting the full 120 Kw from the stall the battery will see roughly 400 volts at 300 amps. So let’s say you just arrive in stall 4A and someone is just finishing up in B. If the two stalls have one of the 150 KW power supplies and the first car has tapered to 40 KW (almost charged) your side will have 110 KW available.

It works the same for dual station non Tesla DCFC (dc fast charging). Eg, our leaf for example. Just the numbers are smaller.

Oh boy, getting out of my knowledge base here but I'll post on the Tesla forum and ask. Like you this stuff interests me. I do know that in my LEAF the max mileage recharge rate is a little better than half of that number. Of course my car was only 30 grand (Canadian currency) brand new as opposed to probably 80 grand for that Tesla. So you get what you pay for. Ours does everything we need it to do and we don't do lots of long trips.

I'll get back to you on the voltage and current thing.

Good morning 2 oldman. Super chargers are limited to 120KW BUT

The charging is limited to 120 KW PER DUAL STALL on some superchargers. What this means is that if you are charging at a stall and someone pulls in and hooks up in the other stall your charge rate will drop in half. This is why good etiquette among EV drivers is that you take another stall in another stall pair if it is open. This is the same for us non TESLA EV drivers at Chademo fast charge stations (our version of the supercharger). By the way the new CHademo stations going in have the capability of 150 KW charhing rates although it is still limited to what the car will accept. In other words if I plug my 2016 Nissan Leaf in to one of these I still only get the 50 KW my car will accept.

He is charging at 94 KW but depending on what the car decides (heat etc) he can take max 120 KW. It also drops off fairly quick after 90 percent. Good etiquette at fast chargers is to disconnect at 80 percent if there is a line up. EVer's in general don't fast charge past 80 percent if there are people waiting.

You may have seen the 265 miles/hour reading on the same screen. That means he will take on 265 miles of range in one hour. He is obviously in a P100 model S. There is talk already of a P130 sometimes is 2018 when they do the makeover. North of 400 miles of range. It'll be pricey as it will be on the upper trim mpdel. Probably still cheaper than an equivalent Mercedes though.
