New to the forum.

Hi all, new guy here. Ive just been browsing the forum a bit getting to know it a little better.
Looks like a great site!
My wife and I arent new to camping/rving.
Both of us grew up camping with the parents and now we continue the tradition with our three kids 11,9,7.
We took an 18 day trip in Sept.this year out through Colorado (estes), Utah (moab-zion), through Nevada, ending up in Anaheim rv park to visit Disneyland, Dana point beach, south of L.A., turned around and came back taking a little bit further south route to Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Pikes peak and ended up at Lake McConaughy in western Nebraska.
We practically had the entire campground at Lake McConaughy to our selves.
3900 miles traveled, 11.5 mpg from my truck.
Had a great time, these memories will last a lifetime.
Im already planning our next big trip!
The good thing about our trip was we just missed the massive rainfall/ flooding in Colorado and all the National parks shutting down.
We home school our children so it was great to have that option of rving in "off season".
Just a general overview of our trip (I could go on and on :)), but you get the idea.
Any questions just fire away and Ill try to answer the best I can.

Here are a few pics of the trip.

Me and the fam.

Stopping for a break, Wolf creek pass.

Beach south of L.A.

Zion.

Grand Canyon.
If you zoom in to the lower left corner of this pic. you can see people camping on the beach of the little island in the Colorado river.

Deadhorse Point, probably our fav. place.

Near Estes.

Taking a break at a stream on Old Fall River Road.

We made it to top of the mountain.

No place like home, well, close enough.
Lake McConaughy.

Now you've brought attention to it and I'll bet I catch some grief from gasser drivers.

Haha. Real trucks get a real repair bill when it all goes bad for 'em. :P (ask me how I know)

OP- cool thread. My kids are grown for the most part. My youngest is a senior in high school this year. He is looking at playing college baseball so the fun times are not totally over just yet.

If I may give you some great advice........never pass up a chance to spend time with your kids. You will never regret the time spent. You will regret missing the opportunities to spend time with them.

  • You have a nice-looking family and the children will always have great memories of the time you gave them in nature. You can be mighty proud of yourselves!
  • Yeah, great memories indeed.
My parents had a popup camper for years.
Dad,Mom,five kids and Grandma camped in that thing for years.
Ohhh how things have changed. :B
  • Painless learning for the kids, a lifetime of memories, and an incurable addiction to traveling. My parents started me when I was 6 or 7, 60 years ago. I still remember bits and pieces, tent camping in Yellowstone, the Tetons and the Black Hills of South Dakota. Watching Charlton Heston in a movie being filmed in The Badlands. And my Mom running to the car with her skillet of fried chicken when a bear walked through the campground in the Smokies. She locked the doors and left my Dad and me outside! The bear ignored us.
