Wayne,
Unless there is some reason to go through Toronto, I'd stay in the states and then go into Canada just east of Kingston, Ontario. Follow US highway 81.
Once in Canada I'd use highway 2 instead of the 401.
X2 - avoid the 407 toll road around Toronto - it will cost you a fortune.
Hwy. 2 is a pleasant highway to drive. In Kingston I would recommend Rideau Acres C.G. www.rideauacres.com
Kingston has a nice waterfront, some interesting restaurants and old stone buildings. Old Fort Henry is a tourist attraction in the area.
On PEI we have enjoyed staying around the Brudenell area on the east end of the island.
Cavendish is the home of Anne of Green Gables. If you ave young kids they will enjoy this, otherwise it is a major tourist congestion area. We avoid it. Charlotttetown has some nice tourist sites.
Note you want to take the ferry across to PEI and exit using the toll bridge. this is the cheapest way to do it.
Little Kopit on this forum has lived in the area for a few years now. She is an excellent source of information and in the past has posted an extensive list of things to see/do/avoid.
On our way to Bar Harbor area, we stayed at Pumpkin Patch RV Park, near Bangor, Maine. Although it has been many years since we were there, it was a very nice park.
Have fun planning.
