Steep a handfull in the soak bucket. Afterwhich make a poultice and clamp it against the wound.
Stingray slime contains bacteria so allow the wound to bleed for a few minutes. Wipe around not near the wound with alcohol. Don't be surprised if the wounded gets a little ill after getting poked.
The old saw about shuffling in the sand to allow the critter to escape is not 100% true. Some rays will flail even if they are merely bumped into. Jabbing the water ahead of you with a bamboo wading stick always works. Jesus and I clear a 10' x 30' area for the girls to play in and delineate the area with rocks on shore. A ray chased away stays away for several hours at the minimum.
