North Bend COE VA to Kiptopeke SP VA

Hi All,

We will be traveling from North Bend COE to Kiptopeke State Park next month. I plan on taking US 58 from South Hill to the Virginia Beach area. We won't need to re-fuel on this leg of the trip, but does anyone know of a good rest stop or pull off about half way? We'll be towing a 28' TT and would also like to let the cat use her litter pan while we're stopped. I can also turn off the propane there for the CBBT.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
  • You do not want to go to Norfolk, you want to head towards VA Beach on 64. You also do not want to take 264 as you approach Portsmouth. Lots of sudden lane changes required, a tunnel, a propane inspection station, etc. Stay on 64 outer loop all the way to US 13 north to the CBBT. You will pass 264 again as it heads east to VB, ignore it. There are blue and white sea gull signs to mark the way. Kiptopeke is 3 miles north of the CBBT on the left.

PS Fill up south of the CBBT, way cheaper usually.
  • If you've never done it, the jaunt from Suffolk to the CBBT south tolls is, well, 'exciting' at times. There's always work being done, sometimes lanes are closed for no reason, and it seems odd to be using I-64 WEST to get to Norfolk. But you'll survive. Right after the CBBT, on dry land, there's a big pull off to flip your propane back on, but Kiptopeke is right up the road. We were there two summers ago, and it's nice.
  • There is a new Love's at Franklin. Lot's of room.
  • Not many good spots. We stop at a Food Lion on the right, but it's tight. There is a gas station for big rigs / truckers at the Franklin exit, but we haven't stopped there.

    Don't speed along that route.
