North Cascades

I do not think this is a problem but just wanted to ask. We have a 36' Tiffin with no toad and wish to travel through North Cascades National Park in June. Any driving issues with an RV that big. About to make reservations at Newhalem and Colonial Creek. They both have sites available now. I just wanted to make sure the drive was something we could make.
Thanks
  • No problem at all. It's a great drive with or without an RV.
Just watch your speed especially around NewHalem. It's a bad speed trap.

Winthrop is worse. But watch your speed every where for safety. It gets crooked and down grade in places. but for the most part, it is a beautiful drive.
  • Who in their right mind would speed through Winthrop? Right after crossing the bridge there's a stop sign, right turn, and busy tourist shopping district. Big RVs should park west of town and walk across that bridge.

Yer right, park by the big red barn,
The speed trap is usually just west of that approaching town.
When doing the speed limit west of town, then see the speed sign, it is difficult to get below the limit before entering town.

    click, He's got ya .
  • And watch out for the spandex hells angels along the highway!!!!
  • Yea, the straight nearly flat stretch from Mazama could make one complacent about speed. Last time I drove it, I had to slow down multiple times because volunteer firemen kept passing us on the way to a grass fire near Mazama.
  • If you can, spend a few days camping in the Rainy Pass area -- excellent hiking.
