In the up coming weeks, we are headed to Rodanthe NC. We are traveling in a 35' class A towing a CRV. Will be heading down MD 301 and pick up 95 around Washington DC. Was wondering if its better to take state route 64 east at Rocky Mount and go over e Roanoke Island or take Interstate 64 East at Richmond to 168 ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Don't take Rt95. I live in Delaware. Take Rt 1 south and pick up Rt 13 South in Dover. Stay on Rt 13 Thru the rest of Delaware, the Eastern shore of Maryland and Virginia. Cross over the Chesapeake bay Bridge tunnel, continue on Rt 13 South for a few more miles to Rt 64 East. Stay on Rt 64 East to exit 295B for Rt 168 Nags Head. Follow Rt 168 south to Rt 158 south, which will take you to the Outer Banks. you will have about an hour to go from there, Rt158 to Rt 12 on your way to Rodanthe.

Enjoy your trip. I was there this winter.

Please note Rt 95 to 64 is 492 miles 8.25 hrs driving
My route above is 345 miles 6.6 hrs driving

From Newark Delaware
Full timing it since July 2012

US 64 from Rocky Mount is a 4-lane road all the way to Manteo, that would be my choice
