We are also now home from our Alaska-Canada adventure. We made it safely to the Denver area just days before several of the roads we drove coming home were washed out by last week's floods in northeastern Colorado. Our part of town received "only" 3.75 inches of rain (about 30% of our average annual precip in one week of our normally driest month!). We are high and dry and without damage, but lots of folks only 10 miles away weren't so fortunate. My wife and I lived here when the 1965 flood hit Denver, but this one may actually be worse. Too soon to know, however, as they are still in the search mode and cleanup and insurance adjustments are just beginning. It may be several years before we know the total cost of this disaster.

We missed the Calgary floods by going through BC instead of Alberta on our way up to Alaska. We have now missed the Colorado floods by getting home earlier than we originally planned. So, the timing for the trip worked out better than we could have imagined.

It was the trip of a lifetime for us and we are also grateful to all those who contributed to this thread. It was fun reading about everyone else's trip in real time! Thanks to all of you.

Helllo, We are still here on the forum.
We have had no internet again, for a while this time. We have been in Jasper and Banff the past couple of weeks. The Canadian Rockies are indeed magnificant. We finally crossed over a couple of days ago into Idaho on hwy 95. That part of our trip has been fantastic but we are glad to be back in the good old USA. On our way to Mt Rushmore and the bad lands.
Safe travels to all

I hope not! I am starting out to NY from the Kenai in about 11 days, 4 hours, or something like that. Not counting or anxious or anything. I spoke with a couple who may be on the forum who are not leaving AK until about the same time. They were heading from Homer to Fairbanks. Hope it is not as wet there as here.

I am in Anchorage until the 22nd or so, then heading south and planning on taking my time about it, to avoid ice on the road.

We are finally home in the "stick and bricks" for the past 2 days. Taking time to catch up with every day life BEFORE we take off again down the road. Want to THANK Janet for starting the thread, Sue T for all her support, Lizzie for holding a site in Seward during the 4th of July, and everyone else that has contributed to 2013 Alaska post. We met many of you along the way and have made long time friendships. Everyone have a great year and travel safe.

Canadian Fuel Prices near the 48 border: In general diesel was 5-10 cents per liter less than regular gasoline until approaching the border near Hope, BC. There the price reversal occurred with diesel costing more like the US.

What are the considerations for Canadian pricing near and not near the border?

As one Canadian told me: There is no fuel price fixing it's just that all of the prices are the same!

There seems to be a lot more variation in price between stations in the US but there are also many more stations and population.

Just curious and it doesn't really matter as we have enjoyed visiting Canada and it's people from Newfoundland to BC/Yukon.

Numerous stations in Canada give the clearance in feet and inches. Most Canadians understand both feet and inches as well as metric. Not so with most people from the US. They have to do this to protect their overheads. LOL
Good point and I had a cheat sheet on the dash with feet/metric conversions. Stewart was the only station that I recall with a low roof for big rigs. At 12' 6" I'd leave my AC's behind!

Maybe the two of us? I'm not home yet but rather is some of my old CA haunts for a few more weeks. So not posting much since the Canada/Alaska portion of the trip is over.
