Oregon is on the Bucket List

We love Oregon. The coast is twice a year for us. Canon beach is a must see - have dinner at the hardware store..really great food. Lincoln city to Newport is amazing. Fall is nice but can be cool or warm. Reserve now or you will not get much. We reserve a year in advance to get our preferred sites. Part of the fun is meeting people from all over the world and the awesome locals.

Cape Blanco is a stop for you - rugged yet beautiful beach, very quiet and laid-back. We love that area - southern Oregon. There are forest campground all down along the coast that would be more quiet. One's around Florence that we've stayed but can't think of the name right now. State parks give you a better surrounding than an RV park where you're park right next to each other.

If you're not limited to staying on the coast, Oregon has wonderful secluded areas away from the coast.

We went last fall, started at Fort Stevens on the northern point and finished in Bandon . It was beautiful. If we did it again, we would choose all state parks to stay in. We chose 4 different places for our stays and traveled in between them to see the sights. We would stay in that specific place for 4 days and move on to the next. Saw so very much. The trip out to Oregon from Missouri was beautiful and the weather perfect. Not too crowded, temps great, and hit little rain.

There is a good reason that Oregon can be so crowded -- it's great! The fall is wonderful -- don't miss the Cascades. We like the McKenzie Bridge area a lot.

Life long Oregonian here (and just to be sure, It's pronounced Orygun not Oree-gone). Late fall is by far the best time of year. The coast is great, the Columbia River Gorge is outstanding. Traffic and crowds aren't really too bad. Just avoid the heart or Portland during rush hours and you'll generally be fine. The state parks are great and there are also nice full service RV parks near attractions.

Thanks again for the great responses - I showed the feedback to my wife this morning - kind of a mistake - she really likes what you folks have had to say - starting to look like "we" will be changing our travel plans for 2015 (all the planning has been done to visit the Gaspe) ..... it's exactly a 180 degree change in direction to go to Oregon .....

The fall months are great! We hosted in Lincoln City Sept. thru Dec. last year and the weather was good....a few rain storms once in a while but less people. Here at Cape Blanco and weather has been good also except a few couple of day storms. Go for it!!

Yep September and October very nice here that time of the year. We are never really crowded but the State Parks fill up quickly during the summer months not that there are a lot of people here at that time they are just really nice state parks. Make your reservations for Harris Beach State Park and Bullards State Park in advance so you will be assured of a spot. The scenery is amazing the two parks are only 85 miles apart but you will find a lot of things to do and I would bet you will want to spend time at both places. Both are right next to the Ocean. Have fun we always do. Oh if you like crab bring crab traps you can't miss with that.

Oregon has some nice state parks. We were able to reserve FHU sites at Champoeg SP (between Portland and Dallas) and Tumalo SP in the outskirts of Bend, both wonderful parks. Other sites with electric & water or no hookups available too. Tumalo isn't as good with big rigs as Champoeg. Champoeg (pronounced "Shampooey," seriously) is a great location in the Willamette Valley, not far from McMinnville (the Evergreen Museum is a must-see) and not bad for a day trip into Portland, plus just some nice country drives in the area.

We drove across the state on I-84 and spent a couple nights at Boardman Marina RV Park (county-run, as I recall?) Great views, worth reserving a back-in site along the Columbia River if you can.

As for visiting in the last half of September - perfect!! That's when we were there and the fall color was just starting, weather still pleasant - we loved it.

If you like smaller towns vs Portland or Salem, then the coast is doable - we like the Bullards Beach State Park (Bandon Oregon) area of the Coastal area, although as for me like Tillamook - Cape Lookout State Park .. and are presently in Fort Yamhill Heritage Area, Grand Ronde volunteering for the State Parks. We are not that far from McMinnville or Salem on one side and Dallas Oregon on the other side, yet there are many places to hike including Erratic Rock, and there is an RV Park just down the highway from the Casino .. towns of Willamina and Sheridan are small ... come see us here in Oregon.
