Overnight Flying J

Flying J's are always so packed and most of them are made where a truck has to back into the parking spot late at night and that's a good way to get hit plus truckers have to follow federal guidelines for rest and hours they can drive so at the end of their time they have to shut it down. If there is a RV parking spot open it's not bad at all. I saw a big truck looking for a parking spot in a crowded Flying J once block a couple of parked RV's parked in the big truck area, parked his truck and got in a car and left. When I left the next morning at 9 oclock they were all 3 still parked there.

When you are in Savannah...and you want a GREAT southern lunch...go to Mrs Wilkes Dining Room on 197 West Jones st...open 11 am to 2 pm Monday to Friday...cash only ,but best sourthern buffet we ever had..Chuck

I didn't read all your posts here but at exit 130B off 95 take a right then the first right and about a half mile on the left is a Walmart that I stay in along with others. Have never had a problem or felt insecure in the past 8 stays. Easy in easy out with lots of food options.

Since I am from upstate NY, this what I would do if you are not too limited on time, I would take the Eastern Shore route, with the option of the Cape May ferry, the kids loved that and it gave me a break from driving. Then continue on across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel. You can also stay in the national park the first night without reservations(1st come 1st served) in the early spring.

Have you considered taking 81 south past the DC area or take take 301 to 13 and head south along the eastern shore of MD and VA.
Both routes would allow you to by pass the entire Balto./DC and even Fredricksburg traffic mess.

Our experience too. Also sometimes we find some of the RV parking spaces being occupied by people sleeping in cars or pickup trucks with nothing in tow. :(

Not to me. I like camping next to train tracks. Brings back a little nostalgia of my childhood. I grew up so close to a couple of sets of freight train tracks, the windows in our house would shack and rattle when coal trains passed through day and night. Thought that's what it took to rock us kids to sleep! :B

there are 2 Js there - diagonally across the intersection from each other. A better choice might be the little pancake restaurant/motel just north of the intersection on Welcome Way road or drive. truck parking and not a lot of business.

Flying J has been and is my favorite for overnighters while enroute to my destination. Of course, they have separate RV islands for fuel, dumping tanks, propane, and fresh water, PLUS separate RV parking. Only problem is not enough parking spaces if you get there late. Then there is Cracker Barrel and Walmarts in case FJ is full.

The flying J will be very busy. If you want a free spot consider Cracker Barrels in the area. Assuming you are coming in late.
