Point of interest between Sacramento, OR, WA, Vancouver BC

It is time for us to start planning for our 3 week 2017 road trip. Last year, we were able to go to the East Coast and back, selecting few areas that we were interested in seeing. We picked Washington DC, New Jersey/New York, Niagara Falls, Canada and Mt. Rushmore on our way back. We stayed few days at each area and the entire family really had fun and good memories. A lot of driving for sure, in such a short period of time.

For this year, wife and son would like to head north. First stop they picked is San Francisco. Then short stop to visit a friend in Sacramento. They also want to go to Vancouver, Canada. Looking at the map, looks like we will be passing by Oregon and Washington State. Any point of interest in between that is MUST see or highly suggested? Any interesting MUST see place around Vancouver, BC area? RV campgrounds around the area?

During our 2016 trip, there were lots to see in Washington DC area, New York area, then Niagara Falls and lastly, Mt. Rushmore.

We would like to use a different route on our way back to Vegas, hoping to see other places. We will be in our 32ft Class C, towing a compact car on a dolly. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    If you enter B.C. on I5 do yourself a big favor and take exit 276 to the truck crossing. From there go straight north to highway 1. We have stayed at Dogwood RV park which is convenient. You DON'T want to go through Vancouver with your rig.
    There is lots to see and do. Stanley Park is a must see but be prepared to brave downtown traffic. The Sea to Sky highway to Whistler is a spectacular afternoon drive as are the views from the local ski lodges. The beaches will keep the kids entertained for hours. Oh, and don't forget Queen Elizabeth Park (visual overload).

    I 2nd exactly what CA Traveler said. I also recommend you filling out your signature that will allow us to further make recommendations for you based upon your size and type of rv.

    395 up with sights like Crater Lake and the Columbia River Gorge and others on your way to Vancouver.`Then 5 to Olympia and over to 101. In Astoria don't miss the Maritime Museum and Ft Stevens CG. Continue down the OR coast and the CA Redwoods. Just before Ukiah take 20 to 5 and to Sac. 80 to SF and 101 to 46 for the run home.

    There are many many great sights on this route. Most of the OR ocean views will be on your right with easier access south bound vs north bound. But reverse this route if desired. Just don't miss the OR coast.

    There is only one high priced SF CG located next to a marginal neighborhood. There are many posts on where to stay and how to visit SF so do your research. If you decide to transient SF north/south/Golden Gate Bridge with your rig research this first and I would not take 101, but 19th Ave through SF.

    The north west is always good for a ferry ride some where. BC or Wa.

    What route will you be using to come up? I-84? Promontory point is on the way. kinda interesting if you like our history.

    395 north and once you cross into Oregon 20 NE and 97 north to Canada. 20 from Lakeview to LaPine is an interesting trip passing thru the reminants of a vast inland lake. FT Rock is also really interesring if you can arrange a tour thru reserveamerica. Free tours are conducted from LaPine State Park by park rangers. The High Desert Museum just south of Bend is rea?y worth a day.

    If you have not ever explored Oregon, go up to the top, and choose different or the same places on the way back down and call it a great trip.

    Another year, head north into Glacier, then to the coast of BC and see Vancouver Island and head home through Washington.

    You can't do such a wonderful coastline justice in three weeks, it would truly be frustrating and not enjoyable.
