Looking at 3 different routes

1. Prescott to Bakersfield and then 99 north to 97 on into Bend

2. Prescott to Bakersfield then catch I5 to 97 on into Bend

3. Prescott to Las Vegas then North to Bend

Thanks for any suggestion and where did you stay when traveling

I would recommend I 40 to US395, US395 is just West of Barstow. Do not know how far you want to travel per day but Boulder Creek RV Resort U.S. 395, Lone Pine, CA @ 500 miles is a great park and then another 547 miles would put you at Collier Memorial State Park great park and a fantastic logging museum. Lake Tahoe is along this route.

I agree w/ 95 out of Vegas and avoid CA. If you've got time don't be afraid of 93 out of Vegas.

The shortest on Google Maps is US95 to US20 (plus cutting a few corners in central Nevada and eastern Oregon).

All towns along that route are small, and only a short stretch of I80 in Nevada.

I also say stay out of calif. I won't give you a nickel for any of their roads.

I wouldn't recommend I5 or 99. They are very poor roads south of Sacramento. I would suggest taking 95 out of Las Vegas to Fallon, NV, then 50-alt/I80 to Reno, then 395 north out of Reno to Alturas, CA, then 139 to Klamath Falls, OR, then 97 north to Bend.

FYI, 97 between Weed, CA and the Oregon boarder is CLOSED as of this morning (8/4) because of the fire up there.

We have done the I-15 to I-84 to 20 across to Bend several times. This is a good route but you'll have to go through SLC which is almost as bad as going through Los Angeles.

Another route you might want to think of, is taking I-40 over to Barstow, Rt 58 to Hwy 395. North on 395 to hwy 20 and over to Bend. Only major city on this route is Reno and it's not bad getting through it.

FWIW, Hwy 99 is bad, heavy traffic, construction, etc..... I-5 also has some very bad areas....not to mention very boring.

We use Hwy 395 to go to Oregon almost exclusively. The eastern Sierra's are magnificent!

I vote for #3. Less hassle with the freeways. Nevada route has plenty of stopping places, from boondocking to RVparks.
Hot in summer, potentially nasty cold in winter.
