Question on RVing US Highway 40 Utah to Denver

We are on a 5 month trip throughout most of the northern US and Canada. We are currently a little north of Logan UT. We drive a 32 foot BT Cruiser (V10) pulling a 2011 HHR. Looks like mighty high elevations thru the Wasatch Mountains. We want to stay off most Interstates but will use them if necessary. Do you have any idea if we will have a problem ? What type of grade percent(s) do you think we will hit? Help
  • Thank you! After this year's trip my hubby will have been in the 48 continental US states and I will have the 48+Alaska. We missed Oklahoma and Arkansas last year so that is where we will head. Then to the eastern shores from Raleigh north. We will be in Maine in time for the Lobster Festival. Plan on being in Pennsylvania for 3 or 4 weeks. Life is good being retired.

If you stay on 40 to Denver, you will go over 2 major passes. Rabbit Ears Pass is almost 7% up to just under 10,000 ft; and then Berthoud Pass at 6% just over 11,000 ft.

40 should give you no problems - Enjoy Dinosaur NM and maybe even Flaming Gorge while in the area. 40 will take you into Steamboat Springs and there are a number of really good State Parks in the area.

If you continue East to Grand Lake and Trail Ridge (RMNP) you will have to decide where the next destination will be -- North to the Rockies or South to the Rockies? Great choices, with many different routes.

Enjoy the drive you should have no problem with your rig.
