Redding, CA to Eureka, CA on 299

Route 299 from Redding to Eureka looks pretty curvy. Is there any problem towing a 30 foot trailer on this route? Since it's a major highway I suspect not, but would love info from those who have driven it. Thanks.

No problem. Take it easy and use the turnouts.

I travel 299 everyday. There are 3 passes that you will go up and down, I have no problems with my 35' Motorhome. Just use your lower gears going down the hills, the mountain and river views are great after you leave Junction City. There is some construction (a very large slide) near French Creek, it is open to one-way controlled traffic during the day. You might check the Caltrans Web Site for the most current updates on the slide. JH

Lots of ups and down plus lots of twists. Better is either Grants Pass or 20 around Clear Lake.
