Redmond OR to Portland OR - US26??

Yes, I searched the forum but didn't find the answer. I see some people have taken US26 west from Redmond to Portland. How steep are the grades on US26 from Redmond to Portland? Is there an alternate less steep route? 2 Class A's both towing. From Flat Florida!! LOL

Tillamook Cheese Factory is interesting, BUT two years ago about this same time, after the tour we tried to eat in their little restaurant. A major item is cheese sandwich and tomato soup, seemed appropriate to order. But then it took 50 minutes to receive it! We almost went to our rig to get snacks while waiting. Weird.

There's an aircraft museum nearby that was very interesting, lots more history in that area than I realized.

trip update: Left Redmond and we are now in Woodland WA at the Columbia Riverfront RV Park. The trip today was as awesome as everyone said! Made good time. Only construction was just west of Government Camp and no backups. Moderate traffic, a bit of wind. Saw a glimpse of Mt Hood! We'll be here 3 days to see Mount St Helens and Tillamook Cheese Factory and take a drive along the coast. Thanks again for all your input. Don't leave home without www.rv.net!!

We have been over the pass many times to visit family in the Portland area. Most recent was last summer and the route never has presented any problems just a wonder trip. Our only disappointment is when the cloud cover is low an you can't see Mt Hood.

I just went that way today. You should have no problem except for traffic on the out skirts of Portland.

Hwy 26 is the best route. The Cascade Mountain range is between Redmond and Portland. All routes must go over the mountains, but the road isn't too high. Your rigs will probably have no problem going the speed limit.

thanks donn0128. we are going thru Portland into Washington. We read that US26 was very scenic and really want to go that way but were worried about any steep long grades. We have handled 6% grades with no problem. Both are diesel pushers so I'm sure the engines will handle it. Just the passengers!! We'll give a report when we're done. thanks again. We have been over 4500 miles the last 6 weeks with the help and support of this forum.

26 is the best option into portland area. Especially if your going to the east side. If your going to the west side 22/I5 might be a better option. 26 is an easy climb. Remember your only climbing maybe 1500 feet in elevation
