Are you saying they asked whether you own guns? I assume from your comment that your answer was "No," but a large percentage of travelers could not say that honestly. If you answer "Yes," does that trigger a rig search? A look at my Texas license plates tells them the answer before they ask the question.
Same questions we were asked, but we answered truthfully about ownership and were asked what handguns we owned. We listed them and were asked if we were familiar with Canadian laws concerning handguns. Answered that we had studied them before the trip. Agent advised he had had problems with people from Alabama trying to bring in handguns, handed back our passports and told us to enjoy our trip. We were also asked about alcohol. Agent was very courteous and professional through the whole interview.
