Okay...I know 2017 hasn't even taken off, but those of you that remember me from Roll Call 2013 know that I plan well ahead of time, lol.
4 years is way too long to go without being in Alaska so we are heading up again. This time my sister (Barbara), her husband (Pat) and their baby poodle (Koko) are going with us with their Bounder. We are planning to leave from Bullhead City, AZ around the end of May.
Would love to get a roll call started if anyone else out there is as much of an early planner as I am.
For those of you heading up this year, have a safe and wonderful trip and maybe you will enjoy it so much that you will join us in 2018. :W

Well we just cancelled our 2017 reservations because of medical reasons. We have moved all plans to 2018. Will be leaving the first part of June and return to the lower 48 in October.

I just thought I'd bump this to the top just in case we have some newbies joining us and they can't find us.
We are here, going strong and going to Alaska next year. Yea!!

Sign us up for Roll call Alaska 2018. Leaving Katy Texas April 1st ...
And would like to be in Alaska early May 2018. We are in the early planning stages and thinking of going with a caravan or traveling with small group of people would be fun.

I highly recommend the Haines Junction, Haines, ferry, Skagway, north loop.

And in Haines or Skagway take the Fjord Express to Juneau. VERY worthwhile.

The Skagway drive north is relative close to the railroad.

Actually one of the best months in Alaska is MAY. If you can try to leave so that you cross the Alaska border around the middle of May.

And DO take the detour to Skagway from Whitehorse. The drive is spectacular almost as good as the drive to Valdez.

But this is awfully early to think about 2018...

Have fun.

My wife are planning our second trip in 2018, maybe heading up there first part of July. Plan on entering Canada through the Sumas port of entry like last time. I would to ask if anyone has been to Bella Coola, Canada before from what I've read this is the place to go for bear watching

We're from Southern California in Riverside county.

I have never heard of Bella Coola but it sounds fantastic. I hope someone here will chime in that has been there.

I'm still a maybe. I definitely want to do my US HWY 287 from nearby Beaumont TX to Choteau MT. Trying to decide that if I I'm driving that far, may as well keep going.
Just couldn't jam it into this years schedule.
I'll do it in the cabover.

Hey you will be all the way up in Montana....sure join us....only a hop, skip, and jump to Alaska, lol. All kidding aside. All of it is a beautiful experience not just Alaska. Canada and the Yukon are beautiful and a wonderful part of the trip also. We like to come back thru Cassiar Hwy (to see the Hyder bears) then go to Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff before heading home. We may hit Yellowstone again on our way back to Arizona. My three favorite places, Alaska, Icefields Parkway and Yellowstone.

Planning for my first Alaska trip in 2018, leaving from So Cal and going up to the Fairbanks area. Hope to see Denali, fish and do some prospecting. Now all I need is to buy a TT and make sure my 97 Burb is up to the trip.

We did our first trip up in 2013. July 1 to Sept. 12. Month to go up, month there, and a little over two weeks coming back following fall coloration line from Fairbanks back thru to Yellowstone. Doing a repeat in 2018. Like others, Alaska in not a singular destination, but the whole trip is an unbelievable journey.
My brother in law and sister in law will each be taking their rigs so we will be our own little caravan. Planning is already underway. Can't wait.

We're planning to go in 2018 so sign us up! We meet Janet in Seward in 2013 and she did a fantastic job of keeping the 2013 thread active and interesting.

After several years of discussing the Alaska trip to cross it off of our bucket list we departed. It wasn't long before the bucket list became irrelevant as we realized we were on an adventure unlike any other.
